SAVE THE DATE: June 8-12, 2021. International Indigenous Music Summit: Going virtual this year

Ottawa, ON, April 9, 2021- The International Indigenous Music Summit, taking place from June 8th to June 12th, 2021 is launching a virtual edition this year. For this 3rd edition, the Summit will be broadcasting the event from traditional unceded Algonquin territory, at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, ON, with all programming offered online, and open to everyone.

This year’s theme for the IIMS is Giiwewizh, (pronounced Gi-weh-wish) an Anishinaabe word which can be translated as “to take or carry home”. The programming will highlight the relationships between land, creativity and identity. Under this theme, the Summit will focus on community building and empowerment while creating and sharing opportunities for career advancement and the broadening of creative profiles within national and global marketplaces. The Summit provides Indigenous artists in all musical genres with an International platform to advance their careers in a culturally appropriate and supportive environment.

The International Indigenous Music Summit is a unique annual gathering to amplify Indigenous voices with a commitment to artists, knowledge keepers, and community builders, along with key invited allies and cultural innovators. Over five days, Indigenous artists and music industry professionals from Turtle Island and beyond will come together to honour tradition and forge new paths, through curated musical showcases, panel discussions, workshops, and ceremony.
