Toksook Bay is a small community in western Alaska with about 600 people living there. That is where I learned how to drum and sing. Growing up my mom would take me to these community dance practices and I remember learning how to dance just by watching. I gave dancing a try and fell in love with it. It wasn't until later that I would start drumming and singing though. But once I tried, I knew that that's what I wanted to do. As time went by my experience in drumming and singing grew to the point where I knew how to compose traditional songs. I was a 12 year old boy who had just composed his first song, still learning to understand the art of Yuraq (Yup'ik native dance).
After years of dancing and drumming, I began to experiment with modern instruments to see how I can expand my craft and come up with a way to share my culture.
