The Northwest Kid Bio
The Northwest Kid aka NWK has been actively performing as a poet/emcee within the Canadian music scene for the past decade. NWK's previous releases (Mixed-blood Mixtape, Mob Medicine, Dozy & NWK and Transformation) have provided him with the opportunity to share the same bill with artists such as A Tribe Called Red, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Jeremy Dutcher, July Talk, Tanya Tagaq, and The Roots.
The Northwest Kid has been nominated for Best Radio Single at the 2017, 2018, and 2019 Indigenous Music Awards with the former hip hop duo, Mob Bounce. The Northwest Kid currently has a single called T.Y.T. (Take Your Time) on the Canadian Indigenous People's Radio Station on SiriusXM.
As member of the Gitanmaax Nation in the Northwest Interior of BC, currently situated in Saskatoon, SK, NWK's passion for music and paying it forward has lead him across rural Canada doing youth work with N'we Jinan and ArtsCan Circle, where he talks music with the next generation. With a range from Acoustic, Spoken Word, Hip Hop, and EDM, The Northwest Kid is always in search of new forms of inspiration and partners in collaboration.
Since the pandemic, NWK has pivoted toward doing virtual performances, workshops, and mentorships. He recently released a single titled Thank You Creator, as well as featured in Indigenous Folk artist Tara Williamson's latest single titled, "Almost."
